Osborne Reynolds, 1842 - 1912

Osborne Reynolds was born in Belfast, Ireland on August
23, 1842 and graduated from Queens College at Cambridge in 1867. He became the first Professor of
Engineering at Owens College, Manchester in 1868. His studies of condensation and heat transfer between solids and fluids meant a major development in boiler and condenser design. Reynolds´ name lives through the "Reynolds´Number", which provides a criterion for correct modeling of fluid flow. |
