Franz Grashof, 1826 - 1893

Franz Grashof was born in Düsseldorf,
Germany, on July 11, 1926. He left school at the age of 15 to work as a mechanic while attending
trade school. Between 1844 and 1847 Grashof studied mathematics, physics and machine
design at the Berlin Royal Technical Institute. Grashof was one of the founding leaders of the Society of German Engineers (VDI). As a professor of Applied Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering he lectured in "Strength of Materials", "Hydraulics" and "Theory of Heat" Franz Grashof died in Karlsruhe on October 26, 1893. |
